Enabling citizens, focusing weavers’ community, to participate in the development and decision-making process at local Level is one of the core areas we are focusing on. With the financial assistance from USAID SGAFP, ICIA designed and implemented a model which aimed to engage common with the local bodies to identify and priorities their issues and problems, and to explore solutions and required resources for its implementation. Women in the weaving industry traditionally handled multiple tasks, but now they are mostly involved in manual bobbin winding, which hundreds rely on to earn income despite physical strain and low wages. Some use unsafe electric machines made from fan motors, which pose serious risks and are restricted by WAPDA due to legal and voltage issues.
