In Swat a “2-day’s training “Women in Business” was organized by DEMO Pakistan and MadLab UK in collaboration with Islampur cottage Industries Association (ICIA) Swat supported by British Council and DICE Pakistan in Swat. Project Overview:
Islampur Cottage Industries Association (ICIA) was hired by Lasoona to impart Training on Enterprise Development & Business Management to their 60 female beneficiaries in District Swat, Shangla and Kohistan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Purpose of the project was enterprise development, to increase the number of female start-ups, to build the capacity of the participants to create and run micro-enterprises and income generation opportunities, enable participants to visualize business ideas and its implementation, and also to learn how to help their own clients, when required. Project Overview:
Enabling citizens, focusing weavers’ community, to participate in the development and decision-making process at local Level is one of the core areas we are focusing on. With the financial assistance from USAID SGAFP, ICIA designed and implemented a model which aimed to engage common with the local bodies to identify and priorities their issues and problems, and to explore solutions and required resources for its implementation. Project Title: Orientation on Solar Bobbin Winding Machine

Women in the weaving industry traditionally handled multiple tasks, but now they are mostly involved in manual bobbin winding, which hundreds rely on to earn income despite physical strain and low wages. Some use unsafe electric machines made from fan motors, which pose serious risks and are restricted by WAPDA due to legal and voltage issues. To address these challenges, SRSP introduced a Solar Bobbin Winding Machine in Islampur and conducted training to help both men and women operate and maintain it sustainably. (Read More…)

Project Title: Training on Shawls Weaving

The eight-day weaving training held in Islampur by ICIA and SRSP aimed to strengthen the skills of 11 female artisans in warp preparation, plain and design weaving, border work, and tassel (Zondi) making. Participants, already engaged in weaving, deepened their understanding of the weaving process, including the use of colored threads and traditional tools like the charkha and handloom. The training emphasized practical techniques in warp jointing, pattern creation, and finishing, combining theory with hands-on sessions.
